The Householder's Path

Tantra: The Potency of Consciousness with Paul Muller-Ortega Ph.D.

Paul Muller-Ortega Ph.D. notes that the Shaivite tantric tradition is a householder path that was available to people living in the world, but, it was lost until recently because of the predominance of the path of renunciation – the notion that when a person awakens to spirituality that person necessarily has to renounce the world.

For some, the rununciatory path is clearly appropriate. But the path is not for everyone, so when people awaken, what is that other path? On the householder path, even in the middle of the everyday world, it is possible to learn a series of practices – practices that can, in time, lead to a blossoming of consciousness into higher states of realization.

Many of us do not begin with the understanding of a lifelong practice, but for some, as they begin a practice, one stage leads to another. So, the invitation is just to learn a practice of deep meditation and see where it takes you.
