A veritable artistic movement, Land Art was born in the American West at the end of the 1960s. These contemporary art creations are often designed with natural elements, and they are set up in nature, exposed to the vagaries of the weather — sun, rain, wind, extreme temperatures, tides, and so on. Like giant mandalas, Land Art works are often ephemeral traces.
The filmmakers depart on an aerial voyage to discover strange and beautiful works and to meet the artists who created them. To each his material, his milieu, his mode of expression. They’ve left their studios to express their art otherwise, outside of museums and in harmony with nature. For our greatest pleasure, and for the first time, “seen from above.”
