Why the Bleep Do We Suffer!? with William Arntz
What the bleep do we know about suffering, anyway? That’s the subject of this conversation with William Arntz, director of the hugely successful film, What the BLEEP Do we Know!?, and the author of How to Suffer . . . in 10 Easy Steps. What began as a gentle satire on self-help books turned into a serious inquiry into suffering — what it is and how to deal with it. Glossing over it, for example, makes it hide in the subconscious, where it can wreak havoc. In his light-hearted way, Arntz discusses the power of “not now” and reveals his useful tool, the “Sufferometer,” where every day you put a number on your suffering. When, in reflection, you find that number self-indulgent and embarrassingly high, you may find suffering loosening its grip.
